DR. CUI YONG
China’s First Cardiothoracic Surgeon to Pioneer Minimally Invasive Artificial Heart Implantation
Dr. Cui Yong is renowned for his revolutionary approach to cardiac procedures. He was the first to pioneer minimally invasive surgery in artificial heart (LVAD) implant in China in November 2022. Dr. Cui Yong holds advanced training in both Pediatric and Adult Cardiac Surgery. He completed his Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at the University of Alberta, where he also undertook a comprehensive Adult Cardiac Surgery Fellowship. Currently, Dr. Cui Yong is the Chief Surgeon and Director of the Cardiovascular Surgery Department at Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital.
His other accomplishments with published papers include:
  • January 2019 – China’s first “Surgery Without Visible Scars” (SWVS) Trans-Mitral Morrow procedure to treat Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM)
  • July 2020 – China’s first “Surgery Without Visible Scars” (SWVS) Aortic Valve Replacement
  • August 2020 – China’s first “Surgery Without Visible Scars” (SWVS) Double Valve replacement
  • April 2021 – China’s first “Surgery Without Visible Scars” (SWVS) Ascending Aorta replacement procedure
  • August 2021 – China’s first “Surgery Without Visible Scars” (SWVS) Trans-Aortic Morrow procedure to treat HOCM
Dr. Cui Yong’s contributions to the field have also garnered international recognition. In May 2023, he was the only Chinese surgeon invited to attend the prestigious Gordon Research Conference on Mechanical Circulatory Support in the United States, further cementing his status as a leader in the global cardiovascular community.
