DR CHONG KIAN TAI
Ex-Chairman for the Urology Cancer Tumour Board at Tan Tock Seng Hospital
Dr Chong Kian Tai completed clinical Urologic-Oncology training at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York, USA in 2009. He is the first urologist trained in Southeast Asia to complete this fellowship in MSKCC. He is a certified specialist in urology who started the HIFU focal therapy for prostate cancer in Singapore to reduce urine incontinence after cancer treatment and one of the first urologists in Asia to do Urolift implants for benign prostate hyperplasia to prevent sexual and ejaculation problems for men. His key professional expertise includes the diagnosis, treatment and management of urology cancers for prostate, kidney, bladder, testis, and penis.
Prior to private practice, Dr Chong was the consultant, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Co-Director of Urologic Oncology and Director of Research in the Department of Urology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). To improve holistic care for urology cancer patients in TTSH, Dr Chong was the Chairman for the Urology Cancer Tumour Board, Chairman for Urology Cancer Support Program, Chairman for Advanced Care Planning Team, and Chairman for TTSH Prostate Cancer Support Group involving cancer patients and their family. Dr Chong was also an Advisory Panel member for the Singapore Cancer Society.
For urology cancers, Dr Chong concentrates on the Da Vinci robotic partial nephrectomy, Da Vinci robotic radical prostatectomy, HIFU focal therapy for prostate cancer, MRI-ultrasound fusion guided prostate biopsy and bladder cystoscopy with narrow-band imaging (NBI). His urology cancer expertise bagged him awards from Southwest Oncology Group (USA), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (Singapore), and National Medical Research Council (Singapore).
